for the $10 essay, I will probably include something to do with food (i love baking and cooking!), so is it ok to send baked goods ?

Obviously, there could be a problem sending baked goods. There may be a long time period between the submission and the application review. JHU seems to encourage a unique approach to the $10 question, but I would still be concerned. How about an essay to go along with the baked goods? A recipe and a story to go with it?

many applicants in the past have sent in food as their $10 essays – my favorite from last year was a great cheesecake. I agree it is a good idea to include something written about the baked goods, because once the counselors get to reviewing your application the food will be long gone. (Often time the food is eaten by the student workers who help process the tons of mail received throughout the winter.)

Make sure when sending baked goods you send some form of certified mail where someone in the Admissions Office has to sign for it (FedEx, DHL, etc.). Otherwise it is considered bulk mail and it could sit for two/three weeks.

Happy baking…

Food??? I’m confused … How does sending a cheesecake (or any other type of food) take the place of writing the $10 essay?

no, it wouldn’t take the place of an essay- it would just be a little extra something, to bring the essay to life, in a way =D
