I will have taken 8 AP exams before my senior year. If I get scores of 4 or higher on all of them and get the AP National Scholar award, will it give me an edge when I apply to top colleges such as UPenn, Princeton, Columbia, NYU, and Cornell? Or are top colleges indifferent to the award? Thanks!

Well, tens of thousands of people receive this award every year; it’s definitely not as big an eye-catcher as a 2400 on the SAT.

It does look impressive as the average applicant will not have it. It is even more so if received before senior year. Of course, this by itself will not make your app, but anything you can put down will help it.

For Ivy League applicants, it does not mean much. Practically most of the competition has it too. I guess its worth listing on your app if you do not have many awards, but it won’t make a huge difference.

skysleeper you say it does not mean much because everyone has it, but it still will help you because if you do not have, you would be on a lower level in one area than the other applicants.

actually the tens of thousands figure is incorrect. tens of thousands of people may get it, but most receive it as seniors, after theyve been accepted to college.

i recall a few years ago roughly 700 students had gotten national AP scholar after their junior year, it may be more now. that figure is enough to make it potentially useful, but given the fact that its still say 700 students and its just measuring your ability to take tests that arent really all that hard, it doesnt really mean that much

700 kids in a 2000 person graduating class could mean something. if u have scores that are all 5’s, THAT might set you apart truly academically

Then how is that figure incorrect?

whatt does that mean? lol, being part of 1 of 700 is already pretty insane, good to be in the top 2.5% of a 30000+ applicant pool.

all 5s its pretty inconsequential. 13 5’s after junior year did not prevent me from getting rejected from 6 schools, so i doubt it would make anyone

@314159265 - how is being national ap scholar gonna help you after you get into college? (its not incorrect, excuse my word choice) its irrelevant to the question
