I know here at UCLA , the elc (top 9% of class) doesn’t guarantee you admission, but it DOES help.

Would it still help regardless of your major? Ex: engineering?

Hard to say. ELC used to matter more when it was, IIRC, top 4%.

Now that it is the top 9% it doesn’t seem like the ELC designation is significant unless you are looking for guaranteed admission to Merced or perhaps Riverside.

Naw, I doubt ELC has any relation to what major you choose. All I know is College of Engineering is looked at differently than say Letters & Science. (for example, you have to be strong in math if you’re going for eng.)

On paper UCLA states ELC is an admission evaluation criteria, but I heard from a UCLA reader who stated that readers are instructed to disregard ELC when evaluating freshman applications.
