When searching for books online, I have noticed that books hve same title author and edition but different publishers.Does that reall make a difference in the books?

Shouldn’t matter if the editions are the same.

I have only encountered that situation for texts that were not copyrighted (e.g. old philosophy or Classics texts). In that case the content of the books was the same but the page numbering was off. And the page numbering does matter a lot in some cases. If you expect to write a paper that cites from the books, get the books from the publisher that the professor recommends. If you expect to use the books in class (e.g. philosophy or foreign language texts), get the correct edition or you will never know which page the professor is actually on. If you expect to get frequent assignments from the book and don’t have someone to compare chapters and page numbers to, get the correct book. If you only need it for reference or expect to read it once and never look at it again, by all means get the cheapest version you find.
