It really depends on the college. I think for most you should be fine.

Most look at M + CR. If they do consider your writing score, 690 should suffice.

I am planning on applying to UT and A&M. So would a composite of 1520 be enough to get decent scholarships?

Yes, I think you’ll be fine with a 1520. :)

Alright, would this be worthy of the Forty Acres Scholarship (competitive full ride)?

That, I’m not so sure of. Is it based solely on SAT?

FutureOilBaron, congratulations on your Math 800. If your SAT Math 2 is also an 800 then most engineering schools will view you as a strong applicant. Keep in mind, though, that you can make yourself even more attractive to schools by also taking the ACT and scoring well (especially on the Math). How are your grades? Extra curricular activities? Community service? Colleges look at much more than just scores . . . .

@PrepMom18 I’m in the top 1% of my class. Extracurrics are pretty good: 100+ hrs of service, officers of some clubs, active in church, planning on playing varsity baseball. 4.0/4.0 unweighted. I’m debating whether or not I should take subject tests. Any thoughts?

YES–I strongly suggest you take subject tests. Strong scores will strengthen your application.

Math comes naturally to me so I’ll study for the June subject tests. Thanks!

Many schools will make you take a writing class Freshman year if you don’t have a high enough score or a passing AP test in English. For example a 680 would get you out of the Entry Level Writing Requirement at UCLA. Check the schools you plan to apply to.

I would just call them and ask how they view it. You don’t have to give them your name, just ask them how they weight the different sections of the test. It’s a good question, but I do not think there is one answer.

So I took two subject tests (math 2 and bio m) and got perfect scores on them!

That’s fantastic @FutureOilBaron . You’ll definitely be competitive for scholarships
