Does this belong on my resume?

I have recently pledged to Alpha Phi Omega, a co-ed community service fraternity. How should this be listed on my resume? Does it belong there? I do community service weekly through this fraternity.

Yes, I would definitely mention it. Under the education section, I usually just mention important things like GPA and notable organizations with bullet points

Ex:
X University 2011-2015

 • GPA 4.0, Dean’s List: Fall 2011 - Present
 • Alpha Phi Omega, Member since 2011, Member of the Year

something like that.

Another option is to create a separate Activities section if you have a lot of space to kill.

If it’s specifically a service fraternity I would put it in an activities or community service section and mention some of the things you’ve done. Just the fact that you’ve pledged or are in one isn’t enough to warrant a mention.

For example a social fraternity would only get mentioned if you held any positions that would speak to your skills.

Written and seen a bunch of resumes. Agreed that this should be on there, but yeah, if you do have a separate section for activities (if you have others, that is) it would be best placed there. If you don’t, I don’t think it’s a problem to list it with your education.

True, my point was that you shouldn’t assume anyone knows what Alpha Phi Omega is and so to just list that you are a member doesn’t say anything to the person reading your resume.

I put APO under activities and listed my time of membership and duration of committee position with a brief bullet point of activities I do associated with it.
