I have a slightly different perspective- if the OP writes about being a child of a military parent, it will be important to write about some unique aspect of their experience. It will be important, not to write just about adapting to frequent relocations, learning resilience and how to make friends, learning how to throw away things that have been important to them when it’s necessary to relocate to a place where they either can’t bring it or won’t have room for it (so learning how to identify and value the important things in life), what it’s like to live with a parent deployed, etc., as any of these topics can run the risk of it being trite or unexciting if not written in a new in a unique clever or engaging way.
It’s important that the essay itself not be cliché, but rather it is an opportunity for a springboard to a unique experience or memory or opportunity that shaped their lives and help them to grow, even if the experience was minuscule or idiosyncratic
