Does this sound about right?

I’ve begun to legitimately tack down my college list and I’d like some advice about it! This isn’t a chance thread really (or should it go in that forum?) but I want to know if I’m being realistic or not risky enough with the schools I’m looking at. I haven’t posted my stats or an advice thread before here, so here it goes:

Potential major: Humanities (I have strong interest in art, history and foreign languages so I am hoping to either find a double major, cool minors or interdisciplinary concentrations within a major like ‘humanities’)
Location: I’m partial to the pacific northwest and the west coast in general. I live in California but am not applying to any UCs (didn’t take subject tests and I don’t want to deal with our wonderful budget crisis). If there is a CSU that fits me, I’d be glad to hear it. So I’m not really looking beyond the west coast until there is good potential for scholarship/grant money.

Academics: I’m not sure exactly on my rank, but I’m in the top 25% in a class of over 600 students. I go to a high achieving public school.
uw GPA is approx. 3.41
w GPA is approx. 3.67
My freshman year killed my gpa (3.16) and I’m hoping this year’s grades will help a lot. My current classes: AP Studio Art, AP English Lit, AP Psych, Honors French 7-8, Gov/Econ (reg), Graphic Design. I’ve taken a few other AP and honors classes over the years.
Scores:
ACT (first –> second time):
Eng: 32 –> 29
Math: 27 –> 25
Read: 28 –> 34 (?? haha)
Sci: 29 –> 28
Eng/Wri: 30 > 27
Essay: 9 –> 8
Comp = 29 - 29
I plan on sending my first test to most schools and then my second test to schools that are more selective. Is this the right way to go with ACT because of my randomly high Reading score and my unimpressive Math score the 2nd time?
SAT (took once and then just this last Saturday… but I don’t expect the score to go up much):
CR 650, M 570, W 640 = 1860
I took one subject test (got a 560 or something) and then didn’t take anymore :stuck_out_tongue: I’m not planning to apply to schools that req. them.
ECs:
Tech/youth leader for over 5 years for my church (250+ hours)
Member of French Honor Society, French Club and S.A.F.E. Animals club (endangered animals)
President of French Honor Society for 12th grade
Lacrosse and field hockey team manager 10th grade, played softball and field hockey freshman year
Various hours of community service through my church (this probably totals to only 10 hours)
Principal’s honor roll and CSF
My main passion is art. I plan on submitting a portfolio and making art a big part of my college experience. I also love reading and learning about other cultures (currently, French and Russian literature make me swoon).
Desired College Characteristics: Laid back! I’m very calm and chill and sometimes California isn’t even calm enough for me, haha! I like to have fun but am not looking for a major party school. I want a place I can feel accepted and be enlightened at the same time. I’m conservative, but am open to liberal schools or politically apathetic schools too :stuck_out_tongue: I want to travel/study abroad and take Russian and French (at the least) in college.

The schools:
Lewis & Clark
Willamette U (I’m 95% done with application as I type)
U of Puget Sound
U of Oregon
Goucher College (only non-west coast school I’m looking at. I love their minors!)
Loyola Marymount University (only CA school. I visited it and love it but might be too expensive)
Western Washington University

So:

1) Am I looking at a good pick of schools? Should I find a better safety or reach? Should I look at a CSU or another public on the west coast through WUE (Western Undergrad Exchange program)?
2) Which or how many ACT scores should I send?

Thank you so much for your time and replies :)

It seems to be a nice cross-section of schools but I would definitely look at some more WUE schools for affordability. You don’t say how much your family can afford for school. Do you need FA?

I definitely will be needing financial aid. We might be able to pay for about 30% of a tuition of 50,000 over four years and we don’t plan on taking out loans. I’m not sure how to explain our financial income/level because my dad is unemployed/recovering from a surgery, etc. I’ve also been working on scholarships and I will continue to look at more WUE schools. Thanks!
