Does this turn you off?

AP Stat-5 (99)
AP World-5 (94)
AP Biology-5 (96)

AP Calc BC- 5 (100)
AP Chem- 5 (97)
APUSH - 5 (94)
AP Physics B - 5 (100)
AP Language -3 (98)

Does the picture look better with or without the 3?
Applying to top 15. and yeah, it really sucks to miss national ap scholar by that much.

Its strange that you got a 98 in the class, but only a 3. That tells me that your school has serious inflation. Therefore, it looks bad with the 3. However, you have tremendous scores both on APs and GPA-wise, so overall you shouldn’t be too worried.

AP scores don’t matter that much in admissions. The 3 is fine.

The problem was my teacher never taught TO the exam. He taught us how to think, use rhetoric, and debate. One of my favorite teachers to be honest.

I think it’s kind of impossible to teach to the AP Language exam. My teacher has a similar approach to yours and I still managed to get a 5. I know this sounds obnoxious, but you shouldn’t make excuses. A three is fine. Don’t sweat it all of your other scores are fantastic.

Is that how so many people on CC can get 5s on like 10-12 tests in a year–they have teachers that have the “teach to the test” approach? My teachers didn’t do that, for the most part.

iluvpiano, are you saying they do not consider your AP scores in admissions? not even the top tier schools

sierra, AP scores just reinforce that you are taking challenging courses and most likely doing well at them, so they don’t matter too much, as long as if you are taking a decent amount of your school’s challenging courses

Arzeyn, you should be good since your grades are really high. No school is going to reject you for not getting national AP scholar.

Consider- yes. Highly consider or greatly affect the admissions decision- No. GPA, ACT, SAT, grades, recs, ECs, etc. are more important.

Although that is what many CCers say, I disagree. Colleges cannot openly take APs into much consideration because they are optional and it would put those less fortunate at a disadvantage. HOWEVER, I believe colleges look at your grades and your AP scores to see any discrepancies and evaluate the extent of grade inflation or deflation at a certain school. Also, getting all 5s will always look better than getting all 2s. That being said, I think APs have less of an impact than other factors simply because they are “optional”

How about getting a 4 on the AP exam with a A in the class? any discrepancy?

Colleges care much more about the grade in the class than the exam score.

Colleges do NOT care about AP scores. Ignore what other people are saying. They can’t because they don’t have a score report.

Oh wow. I’m so sorry. I would have probably cried if I got that close to AP scholar and got a 3. Your scores are phenomenal though. In terms of college admissions, one 3 is perfectly fine. Colleges look more at the rigor of your course load and how well you do in the classes than at your AP scores.

With seven 5’s and one 3, you’re absolutely fine.

It’s just one score out of eight and at least you passed.

But I’m just really curious here-- How were you able to get those other 5s on much more difficult exams but only a 3 on a comparatively easy one? I thought language was definitely the easiest out of those you took except for Stats.

Hopefully nobody gets angry at me for asking. /:

The OP could be referring to a non-English language test, in which case a 3 is actually pretty good.

“Does this turn you off?”

LOL. You’re saying that perfect AP scores physically arouse us LOL. You have GOT to be kidding me.

I’m pretty sure he was referring to English Language and Composition.

On a cursory glance, I didn’t even notice until you pointed it out. It’s not the end of the world.
