My dad said that because his friend applied for chemical engineering and it was easier to get into than regular engineering.
My understanding
College of Letters and Science -acceptance rate of 15% (17% of CA resident) - applicant’s major not a factor
College of Engineering - 9% - major a factor. Some engineering maybe a bit less, I think EECS is closer to 7%.
College of Chemistry - 6/7% - major a factor. Chemical Engineering is in the college of chemistry
I don’t think college of chemistry publishes it’s acceptance rate. We have a friend who was accepted and was told this information was presented to them as an admitted student.
Each UCB “college” has a website with lots of good information about majors and how admissions works for their respective colleges.
do you know anything about the college of natural resources, my intended major is nutritional science
From the CNR website:
The benefit of applying directly to one of our majors is that once you are admitted and have accepted your offer of admission, you will start your first semester under the department you wish to graduate in. Declaring your major will not give you any special advantage in terms of admissions. All students who apply to UC Berkeley and select a major within the College of Natural Resources are evaluated based on their application, not on the particular major they select.
