Does university rankings really matter for engineering?

Hello,

I have a dilemma right now. I’m currently going at McGill University and I’m taking engineering. I’m from Calgary. I really miss home and my friends, and if I were to live at home I wouldn’t be in debt (by living at residence at McGill). So, I want to transfer to the University of Calgary but I’m wondering if it’s going to affect my future employment prospects. Both programs are accredited. I plan on working in Calgary anyway, so would U of C be better for me? Also, U of C has a much better internship program than McGill because of the way higher placement rate and the higher number of opportunities because of O&G. I really do want to transfer, but I won’t do it if it’ll screw me over in the long run. I just want to hear people’s thoughts on this.

Thanks!

Talk to the “career placement offices”, or whatever they are called, and ask them what companies recruit for jobs in your field at each university. Other people’s job placement rates don’t matter. What matters is that your resume gets a chance to be seen by employers you want to work for. While you can submit resumes to any company online, if a company recruits at your school, it is sending a strong message that they value your graduates. Personally rankings and prestige are less important than a quality body of work while you are a student.

Here is a listing of recruiters at each school:

McGill University: <a href=“欧美日韩视频,久久久久狠狠色精品,在线 国自产拍线 色青,另类影院”>欧美日韩视频,久久久久狠狠色精品,在线 国自产拍线 色青,另类影院;

University of Calgary: http://www.ucalgary.ca/careers/files/careers/S_E%20Exhibitor%20List%20for%20website_0.pdf

It seems as the recruiters are very similar, with U of C having an emphasis on O&G companies while McGill has some eastern companies like Lockheed and Bombardier. Thoughts?
