Does USC guarantee admission for their staffs children?

Hey guys,

One of my friends dad recently got a job at the USC Children’s Hospital and he is the head of gastroenterology there (or something along the lines of that). My friend is a senior right now and he has on O.K. gap (4.2) and is applying this november. However, although i think he can maybe get into some of the UC’s, I’m pretty sure he won’t get into UCLA or UCB (even tho he has extra curricular activities. Now I know USC pays for the tuition so it basically is a free ride, but is it automatic admission? I mean, sure he has worked hard, but has he worked hard enough to get in through connections? I don’t think he has… So at the end of the day I’m just wondering if it is automatic admission?

-thanks guys

No. Children get waiver of application fee and children of faculty, and children of staff with at least 15 years service, pay no tuition, but there is no guarantee of being admitted.

No, but it is a whole lot easier to get in.

It is not automatic admission so don’t rely on getting a place.

His test scores will also be heavily considered.

Ohh ok thanks. It just seems unfair…lame how some ppl rely on connections and can’t get in by themselves

Many things in life are unfair, or seem so because they don’t fall in your direction. Just concentrate on what you need to do and you’ll be much better off than keeping track of other people.

Are you a legacy somewhere from your parents? It’s exactly the same thing.
Legacies get a great boost for no reason that relates to them, personally - just for their parents’ effort in getting into a college. But loyalty is important to a college, so even if you don’t have anything special, you still get an advantage thanks to someone else.
Do you play a sport that’s valued at USC? An instrument they need for their orchestra? Same thing.
The university wants some students in particular. It has more applicants than it can get. So the institution’s free to select students based on the criteria IT deems best for its well-being.
