I know it holds a lot of weight in the west, but I’m from NY. Are businesses in NY familiar with USC’s prestige?

If companies on the east coast are not aware of USC’s academic prowess, then they are ignorant - Sadly, I think a number of New Yorkers and east coasters (where I live) are rather limited in their opinions and knowledge about colleges in the west. Oh well - Their loss! Once someone goes to CA, they usually don’t want to return to NY or back east anyway! (I have lived all over the east and west coast, including NY and CA, so I speak from experience!)

eiffy,

The USC Alumni Club of New York is very active. Look it up on the internet. They have many prominent business and entertainment members. The USC club puts on the “Tommy Awards” on Broadway. It was highly publicized. USC alumni are honored and there is a great show. Last year one of the performers was a USC School of Theatre alumnus, Kevin Mambo, who starred in “Fela”.
The counselors must be more aware as SC now has many students from the state of New York, particularly the private schools.
States that send the most students to SC after California:
Texas
Illinois
New York
If there is a contact number on the alumni club website perhaps someone would be able to answer your question who lives in NY.

from what i’ve heard, many westcoast schools lack rep on the eastcoast. East Coast schools are usually seen as more prestigious than their western counterparts due to the fact that they’re usually much older (compare harvard which was started in the 1600s to stanford which was started nearly in the 1900s.) Berkeley, Stanford, and Caltech have large reps on the east coast. To a lesser degree so do UCLA and USC.

Businesses will probably have heard of USC, but as i’ve argued elsewhere, prestige takes a long time to change, and as good as USC’s programs are, it will probably take decades before its prestige catches up with it.

Eiffy,

The USC website has a brief article about the establishment of a SC regional office in New York City. The office will be located at 600 Madison Avenue at 58th Street. More information about this opening is available at: [University of Southern California](http://www.usc.edu) .

The article on the website was just posted this afternoon.
