I have an 86 in my bio class. I know they only require the mid year report, but do they send an email for first quarter grades?
As a requirement for all REA applicants, no. But admissions can always ask for a Q1 update
Is it common for Yale AOs to do that? I know that’s common for Princeton but idk about Yale
I’m not that familiar with Yale. Perhaps @BKSquared knows?
They did not ask my S (he was accepted). Not sure what happens if you are deferred, but seems likely. Q1 being first quarter in 2026 or Quarter 1 in 2025? If Q1 2025, isn’t that in the mid-year report?
If I’m deferred, they will take a mid year report, which at my school is an average of first + second quarter. First quarter ends a week after the REA deadline. I’m not worried about the mid year report, I’m just concerned that they might ask for Q1 grades between the REA deadline and when decisions are made
The OP is asking if they often request before REA decisions in December, so Q1 2025. Obviously, if deferred, they’d get the midyear.
They did not ask and they were not sent? Our school sends them automatically so no one ever gets a request.
Some schools send all 1st semester grades automatically. It is more common when on trimesters. Find out from them.
If your Q1 grades are not considered complete grades (sometimes they are if you have a trimester system), then my understanding is they are not automatically required. I agree they could ask, but I have not heard of cases of them asking for such grades.
my school does not do this
is this worth me reaching out to yale to ask about this?
To say what? If they want them, they’ll ask. It seems they’re unlikely to want.
And if they do want, it is what it is
I would not.
This is a bit of informed speculation, but I think if they were thinking they needed to see complete grades before deciding to admit you, they would just defer you if such grades won’t be available by the time they are making REA decisions. Asking for interim grades doesn’t seem to make much sense from their perspective.
And while it almost surely wouldn’t matter if you reached out, technically that would seem like a potential red flag. So, why even take the risk, small as it might be?
to ask if this is a common thing to do/why they would ever ask for them. im probably not going to reach out though bc I think this would be a bad look for me
It would. Don’t do it.
