Does your DH wear lavender?

Ok, so I’m shopping for hubbie this Xmas, trying to find some trendy clothing. I went to Banana Republic and they have these very nice silk, cashmere V-neck sweaters. They have a gorgeous soft lavender and a striking blue one, too. He has silver hair and blue eyes. Of course, he looks great in blue. But I bought him some charcoal grey slim jeans and thought the lavender would be trendy and fun. But I’m sure he’d wear the blue more. So anyway, is lavender too out there for a more conservatively dressed man. He does wear that color in ties, or plaid shirt…but that’s more an accessory color.

My husband is very conservative and loves to wear lavender dress shirts to work. He’s had lavender golf shirts too. The sweater sounds great.

My husband wore a pale lavender shirt when we got married…and very likely will wear a si liar color to our DDs wedding.

For a sweater, however, no…he would not wear lavender. But he would wear blue!

Speaking as an almost 50 yr old man I would wear it. Plus, you get the added bonus of teasing him for being too conservative if he trades it in later for the blue one. It’s a win-win.

H wouid definitely wear it. He has several lavender shirts.

Ok…I am keeping it! Thanks everyone. If he really doesn’t like it, he can just exchange it.

My DH wears anything I buy for him. He is color blind so I could tell him a lavender sweater was a pale blue and he’d be happy.

Years ago, when we first moved in together, I had to arrange his ties to match his shirts.

When I saw the thread title, I thought you were talking about lavender scent!

I’m going to take a contrary opinion and say that if he’s never shown any inclination to wear pastel tops, he’s probably not going to start now. IMHO pastel shirts/sweaters/tops are something guys either wear or they don’t, so let past experience be your guide. However… you say he likes blue - if he likes light blue, then that’s a pastel and only a tiny step from there to lavender. But if he only likes dark or vivid blues, then it’s a much bigger step to lavender.

If DW bought me a lavender sweater I’d probably return it.

My H would not wear a lavender colored sweater.

I can’t imagine my H in a silk cashmere sweater of any color!

Mine would wear it. He looks great in lavender and pink!

I’m with Sherpa on this one - it would go back, though it’s really a matter of personal taste. Besides, I consider any shade of purple on men a symbol of insanity from my highly biased experience study of the subject (I knew a guy who wore it a lot).

Umm, what the heck is “silk cashmere”? Sounds like an oxymoron to me.

For the record: I will wear purple. I have a jewel-toned purple v-neck sweater I love. But “lavender” sounds like a color I am being signaled not to wear.

I would end up returning it if I ever bought a lavender sweater for my husband. He will not wear any pastel colors at all. He wears suits/slacks/dress shirts during the week in pretty conservative colors- lots of grays, blacks and blues. On the weekends he is in soccer sweats/ shirts. Pretty easy to dress-predictable and conservative.

Well, I stopped by the store as I was doing more shopping today. The blue is more a periwinkle blue and is very nice. But what I found interesting was since Saturday, there are few lavender sweaters left and tons of the blue.

Yes, and he does with some regularity. Why would he not? He’s a conservative dresser in the Wall Street sense of the word and he wears any color that looks good on him (so no yellow.)

No way would I buy a lavender sweater for my husband. He would laugh, thinking it was a joke. He’s a conservative manly man. If your husband doesn’t wear lavender already, he isn’t going to now. My husband would also not wear yellow or pink, I wouldn’t waste my money.

My father and brothers all wear/wore pink shirts, both formal and casual. My husband doesn’t wear sweaters if any kind but would probably not worry about the color if he did wear one. FWIW when I asked my son what his favorite colors are (for the background of a needlepoint I was doing for him) he said royal blue and lavender.
