I was wondering if anyone else’s school gave out such grades. My school does along with the letter class grade at the end of the quarter.

0=Unacceptable work ethic standards below average
1=Needs improvement some work ethic standards not met
2=Meets expectations all work ethic standards met
3=Exceeds expectations work ethic performance was exemplary

So a final grade would look like this A1 or B2 etc. Around here jobs will call and ask not only for the GPA and how you did in class but also the work ethic grade. The work ethic takes into account performance, attendance, appearance, teamwork, productivity, etc.

So does anyone else’s school have a work ethic grading scale such as this?

We had effort grades, which sound very similar. It was on a 1-4 scale (1 lowest, 4 highest), based off of how much effort you put into your work. It was not unusual to see someone get an A but a 1 or 2, or a C but a 3 or 4.

I agree that number 5 sounds like high school and maybe number 3. Mine is college and they are mainly looking at things that a job would look at and want from employees. At mid term they give somewhat unofficial work ethic grades (as in they don’t show on transcript but we sign a paper when we are shown them) and if it looks like you will have a low ethic grade your advisor will give suggestions on how to improve.

We also have a business dress day that goes into our ethic grade. We are expected to dress appropriately for the job we are hoping to get. For me that is office type dress, nurses its scrubs, welders whatever they were, etc.

Yikes, I’m glad my school doesn’t do effort grades. People suck up to the professors enough as it is - and I’m at community college for crying out loud!
