Hoops fan here! And you know I’m over here in Tomato Town so I’m a Kings fan. They will play much better next year in the new barn. I gotta admit watching the Warriors these past couple of years has been amazing.
Do you remember the Kings vs. Lakers Western Conference Finals in (IIRC) 2002? That was one for the ages.
Witnessing the rise and (now) reign of the Warriors has been pretty neat.
Until the last few years, they (to me) were most memorable for the few decent seasons they had when guys like Mullin, Webber and Tim Hardaway were there.
This level of perimeter offense is simply the best I’ve ever seen. I think Pippen and Jordan were good enough – certainly tall enough – perimeter defenders to make it relatively difficult for them. Pippen on Steph would be a treat. Alas, different eras.
Meanwhile, Miami blew a 26 point lead (with a 5 (five) point third quarter) to lose to Boston by 10, but still ended with the highest playoff seed that they could have gotten (3rd) out of a four way tie (with Atlanta, Boston, and Charlotte) in the final standings.
I am a huge Steph Curry fan having moved here just soon enough to watch his final (Junior) year at Davidson. We have been Davidson season ticket holders the whole time. He was really good and fun to watch in college, but has improved so much since then it is hard to believe.
Saw Curry and Davidson in the NCAA second round a few years ago. He was unreal then. What’s the superlative of unreal? Today the guy is simply phenomenal and not simply one-dimensional.
Do you live in Davidson, @NJres? We got detoured off 77 on one of our trips to our place in Hilton Head, and discovered that Davidson is a charming town.
And, again, I say, Go Raptors!!! A 27 point win over Miami in game 7. Woohoo! We are away but watched it on tv and saw two of our Ds and their husbands in the stands.
Bay Area resident here. Excited about the Warriors (and Sharks). Just unhappy that the lower bowl seats at Oracle Arena, which I used to be able to get for $50 as late as least season, were about $200 this year.
And the fun isn’t over yet. 2010, 2012, 2014…2016 - an even year, so SF Giants win the World Series.
On the other hand, 49ers tickets are REAL cheap now. Not that I plan on going. 2.5 hours to get to Santa Clara from my home on the San Mateo County coast is too much of a pain.
@dstark, I hope so, too, but I’m not too optimistic about that happening. In any case, Toronto is celebrating this team. They have gone farther this year than ever before so it is exciting for the city. At every home game, there are thousands of fans outside the always sold-out arena in what is called Jurassic Park, watching on giant screens. They have raised the profile of basketball in Canada so that more and more kids are playing in a country where hockey and soccer often dominate. There are, I believe, about 10 Canadians playing in the NBA now, including Cory Joseph for the Raptors, so that’s fun, too.
I hope that Cleveland beats Toronto!
Somebody can explain how in a world the Raptors are in the NBA anyway? Is NBA an international organization? I am a newbie here, sorry for complete ignorance in this.
@MiamiDAP Oh, for Pete’s sake. Perhaps the same way that professional baseball and hockey have teams in both countries? Would you also eliminate the many foreign players who play in professional sport in the U.S.? I would think that you, if anyone, would appreciate that not everything revolves around the U.S.A.!
alwaysamom,
Assumptions, assumptions, assumptions, you want to believe in them, your right. Did I ask about any kind of elimination? I do not watch ANYBODY, Miami, Warriors, I do not care, I watch ONLY Cavs and nobody else. I also do not watch other sports either, I do not care about many foreign players being on the American teams. I was asking about History of Raptors to be included in the NBA. Why Asies are not in NBA, any German team or whatever other team, I just wonder. I get it, it is much easier to “Pete’s sake” me than produce the answer. You can continue to “Pete’s sake” me as much as you wish, we are in free country.
