Took my corgi in to have teeth cleaned and when I picked her up I was told they pulled 10 teeth, I was shocked and very up set that no one called me to discuss before pulling 10 teeth. I’m told she would be fine was give medication for pain and to prevent infection. Anyone have advice for me to ease this sadness and anger / what to exspect. Found this site while looking up info on this issue.
You found CC when looking into dog tooth cleaning and pulling?
What is CC
Smiles ~ yes I did, even read a few posts from 2010 and 2011 so that’s why I registered and posted my comments
CC is College Confidential
My Japanese Chin rescue had to have a whole bunch (10 or so) iof teeth removed a few years ago (due to poor care when she was a breeder dog in a puppy mill.) It hasnt affected her at all. No difficulty eating dry dog food, chewing on rawhide, etc. I do make sure her teeth get brushed now. I have a baby toothbrush and I put dog tooth paste on it and she chews away. She won’t let me open her mouth to brush the teeth she has left so.
If they hadn’t pulled the bad teeth it would eventually damage the dogs health. Don’t be sad or mad they did it. It had to be done.
I don’t recall being called because the vet didn’t know teeth had to be pulled until dog was under and she was working on her.
I agree you absolutely should have been called. My vet is also big on teeth pulling, but the consent form allows you to give permission for extractions ahead of time, or you can request to be called. My dog has had a number of them, but then I started getting annual cleanings, and they still wanted to extract more. I declined.
The dog seems fine either way, but doesn’t really like hard treats. He will eat his dry dog food.
I agree that you should have been called and I think I would tell my vet that. It is not unusual for dogs to need their teeth pulled as most of us don’t brush their teeth. This usually happens with elderly dogs. Is your dog old? Sorry for your pup- getting teeth pulled is no fun!
This is absolutely outrageous. 10 teeth pulled without informing the owner?! How did the dental x-ray look like? Did they even do a dental x-ray? 'Cause some of those roots could be still left in there (apparently a common complication of extraction of rotted out teeth).
Have you checked Dogster (if that forum is still alive)?
