The pup was having empty nest syndrome this morning with her boy out of town for the weekend so I took her for an epic walk to get her out to see and new some new things. It got me thinking towards our outings when her boy really does head off at the end of summer. Pyrs can stand on their hind legs like a bear all day, but they are usually not great jumpers. Our previous Pyr used to get on to the bed (with help) then think that he was stuck and not be able to get down! The big strong boy can squat down and pick her up, as he calls it, like a sheep (picture those classical shepherd boy and lamb pictures) but when I load her into the back of the car she gets her front legs up then it is kind of a struggle to get her back end in.
Does anyone have recommendations for a good dog loading ramp so that we can keep up our outings when we are empty nesters? I drive a 2000 4Runner.
One thing to consider when looking at ramps is whether you put your dog in the back of the SUV or in the backseat. Some of these ramps, especially the ones that are designed for larger dogs, are long. So, unless you have substantial space beside the car when loading and unloading, it can be a problem. The other issue with side of car loading is the extent to which the door opens. Many cannot accomodate ramps. Also, the larger ramps are often heavy and difficult to maneuver. One reason that you want to see the ramp in person prior to purchasing.
She goes into the back of the SUV
I’ve checked dog ramps out with our neighbors for their SUV and there are tons that fold in two or telescope. I’ve only found a few that fold smaller. [Here’s one](http://www.amazon.com/Pet-Gear-Tri-Fold-Ramp-200-pounds/dp/B000GIPWMM), with a bunch of reviews and questions answered.
Thanks! It’s in my cart! :o3
We have an older golden retriever- weighs about 80 pounds. We bought “mr herzher’s smart ramp” on Amazon to get him in and out of our Honda CR-V. Works great. It is about 6 feet long extended but telescopes in half. Very well made and simple to use. We keep it either in the back seat footwell or on the back seat when he’s in back.

So do I. My son is disappointed that he hasn’t inherited it yet. I still love it over our newer 2008 version.
He’s had his Lab since his sixth birthday. (Avatar dog) She’s 11.5 and she is really starting to slow down. I find she can still jump into the rear seat floor and hop into the rear. I’ll probably get the ramp too. He told me that one of his considerations for colleges in 2016 is that he can come home once a month or so to see his pup.
That’s adorable. Note that he won’t be coming home to see his family, but the pup – at least, that’s what he claims.
I told S last night (via text) that we will need to get the pup her own pygmy goat when he leaves so she will have someone to take care of.
