cartera, were those beans cooked southern style with “stripolean”? (said real fast down in Eastern NC- one word/no syllables) If so, that was one smart dog…the best green beans ever are cooked that way :)!

Nope - fatback. I’m from southern Virginia and I have never heard of stripolean. It sounds like the opposite of fatback. She did love those string beans. Thinking back, I took the pot with the beans in it to the road to lure her up to the house.

Well, it isn’t actually “stripolean” it is Streak of Lean, which I think is similar to fatback. First time when I was in my 20’s I went to the store to buy some in order to cook green beans her way. I looked and looked for stripolean. Asked the meat dept guy who looked at me like I had two heads. I had to go home and call my grandmother and have her spell it out so I could go back and get what I needed. I bet your dog thought she had died and gone to heaven eating those scraps! No wonder she stayed :)

Oh I get it. Yes, there is just a strip of lean in fatback - if that.

I don’t know which breed is the best, but I know which ones are NOT the best - namely any breed that is given to weepy, runny eyes a lot or any breed that drools a lot. Excessive, mindless barking is a major demerit too.

" The best dog is the one that thinks you are the best person in the world."

well said and so true !
I am partial to my corgis , though my angelic puppy is acting more like and obnoxious teen the last couple of weeks.
I am trying really hard to hold off on his neutering as suggested by both the breeder and the vet.
I cannot weat black and my vaccuum bags fill up quickly but they are so much fun

Wonder if the dog connection here is connected to the emptying nests ?
