Dogs

After living in dorms for a year I plan to move into an apartment and have my dog come live with me again. The only problem is I can’t find any info on how the whole dog thing works in Evanston. For example, my dog needs to get walked every day but its probably way too cold (I assume) for me to walk him during the winter. He is a golden doodle. I’ve lived in an apartment before so the concept of living in an apartment with him isn’t new, just the cold and snow. Can anyone give any advice? Thanks

It is not too cold for you to walk him in the winter unless you’re cutting his hair too short. If you’re really concerned, get him a jacket. Be more worried about the salt.

Definitely a lab cross will have plenty of fur to keep him warm for regular walks (though you both might like to shorten the routine for the very worst days). Most Missouri dogs I meet handle it fine, maybe with a blanket/jacket. But I agree with the above, definitely get him booties/be prepared to wash his feet if you take him walking on salted sidewalks.

Doggie jackets come in a lot of forms too…you could get him a sweater, or something that rests over their body and clips underneath like a horse blanket. The Rambo horse blanket company makes great ones for dogs, and they might be more comfy for a potentially-active canine like a lab cross than something close-fit.
