Doing a diploma not a degree, so freshman or transfer?

So I graduated from high school last year and enrolled in a diploma course of one year from a distance learning university in the UK. I did not know what I wanted to do at the time so I signed up in this program and an online course for a different subject to see what I like. The other online course was a MOOC so I doubt I will have any problem with that. But I think this distance learning program might affect my application. Due to inadequate support(it being a distance program) I have decided not to pursue the diploma. As such I have dropped some the subjects, but still planning on giving the exams just to see where I stand. The system is different than the American system it is a year long course so I do not have a GPA or credits yet.

So my question is whether I will have to apply as a freshman or a transfer student. Since it is a diploma and not a degree, along with me not even pursuing the diploma now, do I stand out as a freshman or transfer. Also as the program is a british one, should it actually affect whether the american universities will even get to know that I took a one year diploma course?

Thank You!

You need to contact each place on your application list, and ask them what category of student you fall into. Do not be surprised if some consider you a transfer and others consider you a freshman applicant. Each sets its own policy about that kind of thing.

Yes, you will need to provide your academic records just like you will need to provide your secondary school records. You can’t pretend that this didn’t happen.
