<p>I’ve looked up the departmental websites of Bioengineering, Biology and Biochemistry, as well as the website of UPenn’s medical school. It seems to me that only the faculty at the medical school are directly involved with medical research (i.e. pharmacology). The faculties at the departments that I mentioned above almost work exclusively with plants/bacteria/understanding the fundamental mechanisms of various processes, nothing strictly medical research related. Does it mean that undergraduate students are not allowed to do medical research (e.g. developing new drugs) at UPenn? If my notion is incorrect, please tell me in which school/program and in which lab will I be allowed to pursue my interest while being an undergrad.</p>
