Doing research for a class project, will this count as a research?

So I am currently enrolled in a comparative world literature class and I hoped to do research on graphic novel with my professor. However, since my professor is not tenured, she could not give me any research credit but instead decided to do research with me in a class project kind of way. So Ill be following every step and procedures for the research on graphic novel with my professor as an advisor and guidance except that it is not going count for anything except as a class project. Obviously the end product will be 20~25 pages of report but I’m not sure if this would count as research.

Any help would be appreciated.

If it’s part of a regular class with other students and the research project is part of the class requirements - no, it doesn’t count.

If it’s structured kind of like an independent study, where you are working independently with the professor to develop a project of your own accord, according to your own interests - then yes, that counts.
