Ok. Let’s be very clear here. Marriage, unions of love, requires CONSENTING parties. Animals cannot consent. Therefore, no. I will not protest for you. I will protest for consenting adults. If you can’t understand the difference, then I will save my breath because clearly it’s a losing battle.

I will assume you are not an adult and therefore cannot understand the idea of consent. (ETA: According to your posting history, this would be a fair assumption since you are in or just graduated high school)

“What’s taking the ‘land of the free’ so long?”

^^ I would not protest for it, but I wouldn’t stop it. There are lots of things that I wouldn’t stop but wouldn’t protest for either. IDGAF what consenting adults do with their lives as long as they do not take away the rights of others.

On a biological level, we’re generally designed to be attracted to those outside of our gene pool. One of mother nature’s cool tricks.

THANK YOU REPEDE!! That is the point Im trying to make! Its not just about people consenting about this and that! Its not just about a piece of paper!
You said it yourself princess- you wouldn’t consent for me to marry an animal! You wouldn’t consent for me to marry my OWN DAUGHTER!! Thus, my friends, your rights and rights to consent on laws you wish to make happen are based on MORALS!! The UNIVERSAL MORAL STANDARDS!!

When a dog can sign a marriage license and then stand up on his hind legs and say “I do,” then I’ll think these silly hypotheticals are relevant.

saye329, from your recent posts (which I agree with, by the way) I’m getting the impression that you support DOMA. But your statement, “why, then, are we letting DOMA happen?” gives the impression that you oppose DOMA, which would indicate that I interpreted your previous statements wrong. I’m just a bit confused on what the point you’re making is.

saye, I don’t know what all other countries are thinking but I can tell you that Canadians are thinking “what the heck is taking so long, USA!” Same sex marriage has been legal in Canada for about a decade now, and guess what, the sky isn’t falling, heterosexual marriage isn’t affected, no one has been forced into performing ceremonies, in short, nothing has happened other than thousands of couples have had the opportunity to legalize the committed relationships they’ve had, some for decades. We don’t understand what could be so wrong about that. My hope for kids like you is that you go to college and have the opportunity to open your mind and challenge yourself intellectually with ideas and realities that you may never have been exposed to in your young life.

I really don’t see the “young thing”. I may be of a certain age, but no one, out of respect, should be able to speak for me.

The founding of Canada, I don’t think, was based on God. Since America was, sorry, but DOMA would not be unconstitutional. …I think we should just take the pledge of allegiance away altogether if we are letting this happen.
