Saw a book Pinched by Don Peck. It looks a lot like an extended version of his piece in The Atlantic here:

[Magazine - How a New Jobless Era Will Transform America - The Atlantic](<a href=“How a New Jobless Era Will Transform America - The Atlantic”>How a New Jobless Era Will Transform America - The Atlantic)

The book does include comparisons to previous extended downturns, such as the 1870s-1890s, 1930s, and 1970s.

Other things mentioned include the downturn’s effect on new entrants to the work force (depressed earning power even decades later, a lesser tendency to take risks, lower ambition, direction, and confidence, mental health problems), more health problems among the unemployed, and nastier politics such as greater anti-immigrant, anti-foreign, class warfare, and racist tendencies.
