Donna Summer

Wow! You went to Studio 54?! That place was in People magazine every week, and at that time, I read People every week!

I’d tell my kids about it, but I’m afraid they’d say…“Donna Who?”

^^^^My girls love the movie Selena, starring Jennifer Lopez. Selena used to do a medley of Donna Summer songs, so my Ds knew her songs from that.

My kids told me. I don’t know how they know what they know, but they know everything. I am older too, but both of mine are out of college. I just probably stop hanging around here.

I never went to Studio 54, but I did go to Woodstock.

I still read People every week. So cool you went to Studio 54. She was a class act for sure. I heard she had lung cancer that she attributed to inhaling toxins on 911 when she lived in Manhattan

Studio 54 was on it final run when i went, late 70’s…still for a suburban 18-19 year old, it was eye opening to say the least…the celebrities were less numerous, but still plenty around…i saw more MJ there, and the illegal drugs were used in the open, and the stuff that went on in the balcony would make a sailor blush. ;)

On the Radio, Hot Stuff, Bad Girl, and especially I Will Survive - those were my favorites. RIP.

My father (yes, my father) went to Studio 54. He was in his mid 40s or so. He handled the advertising for his company and some one from the advertising agency took him there. I don’t think they stayed long. I was mortified.

Off topic for a minute, but the song Le Freak by Chic is about Studio 54…".Freak out".

Gloria Gaynor sang “I Will Survive,” but I guess Donna Summer could have done a cover.

I would have loved to have gone to Studio 54. A little young. But in the early '80s we had the Starck Club in Dallas. I loved that place.

mythmom, you went to WOODSTOCK??? I am so impressed.

^^^ Yeah. That is all kinds of awesome.

OMG. That’s where DH and I had our first kiss! Blast from the past. :D

How funny! ^^^ I loved that place. I didn’t do drugs, but I loved to dance and felt totally comfortable going by myself and dancing the night away. I just looked up its opening date. It says early '84, but I thought it was earlier than that. Apparently there’s a documentary made a couple of years ago. You can finds snippets on YouTube.

^^^^I NEVER did drugs. I remember being there one night, and some friends told me they were going out to the car “for a bump” and invited me to go along. I said “What is a bump?” I was thinking it was a dance move. They gave each other knowing glances and said “You’re cute. No really, you’re cute.”

Thankfully I spent only one evening at 54 when I was in my early thirties for a company party. Got an eyeful of some exhibitionist regular customers, young women whom let it all hang out, so to speak. Once was enough for me.

Fox News NY reported tonight that Donna Summer believed she contracted lung cancer from the toxic cloud in the wake of the World Trade Center collapse.

Maybe we all ran into each other there. Were you there the night of the big drug raid? (Could have been more than one.) I wasn’t, but one of our lawyers had summer clerks there…had to call someone else at the firm to get bailed out. Boy, that was a great story to hear the next morning!

Woodstock! I’m so impressed. Studio 54, too!

Studio 54 is a theater again. We saw “Pal Joey” there a few years ago, starring Stockard Channing

Sad to hear. Saw Donna Summer at Universal Studios in Orlando say 7 yrs ago, she was a great entertainer, especially live. such energy. may she RIP

I wasn’t, but I remember hearing that after everyone cleared out, the police found drugs all over the floor as people just emptied their pockets when the raid started.
