Donna Summer

Last dance.

I just saw the news. Sad. :(

I can’t tell you how many dance contests I won grooving to her! RIP, Donna.

This is so sad.

Oh, no!!!

I just love the scene in *The Full Monty *where they’re waiting in the dole line and *Hot Stuff *comes on and they all start marking their moves.

Haven’t seen any online reports yet. Is it true?

I think we (parents) can all remember where we were the first time we heard her disco songs for the first time. Unlike Youdon’tsay, I was a terrible disco dancer. Having done so much swing dancing in my youth, I couldn’t pick up the “disco fever”. The beat was so much different than swing…

Rest in peace. By all accounts she was a lovely and gracious lady.

I thought her family’s statement was just perfect:

“Early this morning, we lost Donna Summer Sudano, a woman of many gifts, the greatest being her faith. While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy. Words truly can’t express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time”

I, for one, had no idea she was ill…

I remember seeing her VERY recently perform on some TV show, but can’t remember what it was…maybe the Voice last season??

This is very sad…

The summer that Last Dance came out (1978?) was one of the most fun and care free summers I ever had. Even now, when I hear that song on the radio, I crank up the volume and belt out every word. Thanks for the memories Donna.

Me too, Mansfield…I turned 16 that summer…made the h.s. cheerleading squad…got my driver’s license…got a job a the pizza shop…had a bf who was a lot of fun…and a bunch of crazy girlfriends.
Every night that summer when the pizza place closed down and a crew of teenagers were left to clean and close up, we’d crank up the juke box and play Last Dance over and over as we danced around the pizza booths…magical summer. Sad to hear of her passing.

Aw. Such sweet memories.

I agree that 1978 was a magical year. I was a sophomore in the spring and would turn 16 at the end of the year as a junior. First boyfriend in the spring. He turned out to be a jerk. And then Dec. 28 was the first date with the boy who became my longtime HS and college boyfriend. We went to see “Superman.”

“Last Dance” was played at the end of every dance that year and for years to come. Started off slow so you could be close to your honey, and then it jammed so that you left the dance on a natural high.

I know it’s not a common or popular sentiment, but I loved HS. And Donna Summer was a part of that.

I never danced to disco but her songs are good to run with.

Ditto. I always hate to hear people say their HS years were hell (hate in the sense that I feel bad their experience was painful). I had a total blast the entire time.

Right? Parts of it were less than perfect, but adversity is how we grow. I look back at that time very fondly.

Okay, I guess I’m 4 years older than the rest of you, because disco was college for me.

She was a total class act, loved her music, makes me remember being at Studio 54 , what a hedonistic place…

My very first 45 was Bad Girls. Donna Summer grew up in the same area as I did. She was a legend. Last Dance was the last song at my wedding.
