Although we were initially focusing on Catholic colleges, particularly, Jesuits, because of finances, we decided to look at some public universities as well. We just came back from a visit to the University of Alabama. We were so impressed with their philosophy of Men for Others. The following day, we went to the Catholic Church near campus and were embraced by the pastor, who immediately took my son under his wing and showed him around the student center and told him of all the activities available there, including retreats and bible studies, as well as game nights, movie nights, meals. We were delighted to find that our son would be able to continue his commitment to serving others even though he would be attending a non religious school that we were more able to afford. While son is an excellent student and has been granted very generous scholarships to his Catholic choices, the price tag will still run us close to 25K a year, including room and board. Thankfully, he will be in an honors program at Bama, so he will be able to get the “small school” environment that he craves. It is wonderful to see that public and private universities do offer this spiritual outlet to their students.

Thanks for the insight
