Don't know what else to do...help! LOANS!

<p>I got accepted into University of Nevada-Reno as a nonresident. My residency will be completed in September of 2012. The cost of school for one semester is $10,000 but my financial aid package with the pell grant and two loans offered were only $8,000. That leaves me short about $1800 to pay out of pocket and that doesn’t even include books, off campus housing, etc. I have applied to every private loan company and got denied. I even had my dad co-sign on some and still got denied. I haven’t applied for Sallie Mae as I have read so many horrible reviews it scared me away. I don’t know where else to turn. My parents have bad credit, I have been denied every bank loan. Any help would be great.</p>

<p>You can’t go to this school right now. You need to request a gap year or delay til spring. </p>

<p>Frankly, the school isn’t worth OOS tuition AT ALL. Just wait.</p>

<p>Talk to admissions and explain you want to defer your acceptance for a semester or until next fall when you can afford it and your residency status is set.
You do not have the money and in state tuition is more affordable for you.</p>

<p>I believe your math is wrong. Tuition is $10k per semester . . . and your loans and grants total $8k for the year, so you are short quite a bit more than $1,800!</p>

<p>Unless I’m mistaken, you’re $6,000 short for your first semester alone. You need to come up with a different plan.</p>

<p>In short, CLEP is an easy way to earn college credit by testing out of college classes saving you both time and money!</p>

<p>While this won’t solve your short term problem of having enough money to cover your semester tuition. It will solve your long term problem of not having enough loan money to finish your bachelor degree!</p>

<p>Uh, no, CLEP will not “solve his problem.” Taking tests instead of college classes is valid for only a very limited number of lower-division courses.</p>

<p>Besides, the OP quite simply can’t afford his school.</p>

<p>The answer to the problem is so obvious, I find it hard to believe that the student nor his parents have figured it out.</p>

<p>If the student will have residency for Spring (or Fall 2013), and attending this fall isn’t affordable, then WAIT TO GO TO SCHOOL. </p>

<p>This is similar to when you see something that you want, but the price is too high…so you tell yourself…“I’ll wait a few months and get it when it’s on sale.”</p>

<p>I’ll more likely defer my acceptance and wait it out. I was offered $8000 for the fall fall semester and the whole cost of school is $9800. So I owe out of my pocket about $1800. I decided I rather wait and attend the community college here for another semester and then transfer for spring.</p>
