Don't think I can ever afford college?

Hello,

How will I be able to afford college? Unlike a lot of fortunate people, who have rich parents, joined the military, or have high paying jobs before attending. I have none of those, and not even a job at the moment. I do not qualify for the military because my brain is so pathetic that I have epilepsy and I have to take medicine for it, so I would be denied which I understand. Oh! Not to mention I live in a town with only around 3000 people, and only a community college! So, I can’t drive and after a year of being seizure free, I just had another one last week so it’ll be another year for me to be seizure free to drive. So, there’s that I lack transportation (no buses, cabs, or anything of that sort here I live in Arkansas) , and I even struggle trying to see my neurologist every few months.

I was home schooled most of my life, and well … I became very anti social, so there’s that but I can handle being around people it’s just I prefer to be alone. I am working on getting my GED, and I told my father that I wanted to get into medical school (he thought it was stupid) since I am 23 just starting off doing this, and he said there is no way he can pay for it and there is no way for me to file bankruptcy so I will be entrapped with paying student loans forever.

Is there really no hope for me to attend college? I really want to, but I just can’t afford it…

You will first have to attend your local CC to prove you can make it through a college curriculum. Take a trip to the school and see what you have to do to enroll.

The CC is ideal and yes, you can make it to medical school if you do well, transfer to a good public university and then on to medical school. I suppose you could look into not-for-profit online colleges. It’s not really the move for medical school I admit and they aren’t exactly cheap but something to consider if you truly are as isolated as you say.

Do you have any other family to reach out to? Perhaps you could move in with an extended family member for low rent, work for a year to earn some money and then aim for more education.
