Doris Day has passed away

She was 97. I loved her when I was a kid.

Under the circumstances, Que Será, Será is probably not the most appropriate response. It was, however, my first introduction to her as it was/is one of skimom’s catchphrases whenever one of her rugrats would say “I wish…”

RIP Doris.

I just saw that on the news. I didn’t realize she was still alive!

I watched all of her movies when I was a kid.

I looked at her Wikipedia entry when I heard the news, and was saddened to read how difficult her life had been. Her only child died of melanoma in his 60’s. Four unhappy marriages and the husband who died while they were married had squandered her millions and left her in debt. Such contrast to the characters she portrayed in films.

Gonna take a sentimental journey
Gonna set my heart at ease
Gonna make a sentimental journey
To renew old memories.

RIP Doris

Her few dramatic roles were incredible. There is one she did involving the KKK that was academy award level.

And that woman could say more with her eyes than anyone else would need dozens of words to express.

The Man Who Knew to Much was my favorite film in her filmography.

She’s the same age as my mother (who’s still alive). I think between the movie theaters and TV, my mom and I saw all her movies. As much as I enjoyed all the romcoms, I agree that The Man Who Knew Too Much was my favorite.

I loved her movies that were shown on TV. She was one of a kind!

Definitely the end of an era…

My parents had a bunch of her albums. I enjoyed her films with Rock Hudson and James Garner.

She was a class act. I hope that her long life was filled with as much happiness as her movies gave to my family.

My parents’ song was Que Sera, Sera–we played it at their 50th anniversary party, and it’s at the beginning of my mom’s funeral video: “When I was just a little girl…”
Fond memories of Doris Day–I’ve seen many of her films on TCM.
