I would not recommend this either. They are a poor quality and very rough to the touch, if they’re anything like what I have seen at several schools, not just my daughter’s. The towels are cheap and thin also. Follow the better advice from other posters.

TJ Maxx for bedding and towels. Don’t buy big bath sheet size towels because they take too long to dry.

Target is good for the accessories (pop-up mesh hamper, storage bins, hangers, garbage can, etc).

Don’t overbuy–dorm rooms are small.

I don’t recommend buying through the campus store. I’m not picky about many things, but I absolutely despise cheaply made, scratchy, pilly, and chemical scented bedding.

Agree with the above posters about “ordering through the college”. That’s a total scam. The colleges sell their info for a kick back. The only advantage is that the stuff is shipped in one box and it’s color co-ordinated.

Have your rising college freshman sign up for Amazon Prime - [Amazon Student](http://www.amazon.com/b/?node=668781011) and just order what you need from there. It will be shipped for free. I prefer the stretchy t-shirt type sheets because they fit over the mattress topper and are nice and soft and you can take them out of the bag and put them right on the bed without washing if you need to. I got ones for my son last year at Kohls, but they sell them at Target too.

I won’t argue with colors or the prices, but I’ve never heard anyone say that the quality is good from Residence Hall linens. I’ve had my share of mistakes with cheap bedding piling and losing elasticity on corners, I wouldn’t chance that stuff.

I order from [College Dorm Room Bedding & Twin XL Sheets by RHL](http://www.rhl.org) last year for my son and it was such an easy transaction, and the quality of all their items was good. Their prices are slightly less than most others, and it seemed as the selection of colors and patterns were geared towards kids between 17-21. When we looked at Bed Bath and Beyond it seemed as their bedding was “too old farty” as my daughter stated :-P.

I plan on ordering again this year from RHL for my daughter this time.

We have paid for everything, including moving in to apartment when starting Grad. school, all furniture and movers.
We have shopped at Pottery Barn (on-line), BBB and discount furniture store as all others in our area have very crappy furniture, not much selection.

The Tommy Hilfiger set has lasted three years so far. It was on sale at Macy at macy’s.
to store the shoes get a set of bed lifts so you cn put them underneath. They are good for general storage.

Two years ago my son bought the linens from Residence Hall Linens through his school and the sheets and comforter were were cheap and all polyester . My daughter just bought her linens from a new company called American Made Dorm. The package arrived this week and the sheets and towels are soft and the comforter is beautiful and all cotton. The best part is that everything on the site is made in America.

Target and like Kohl’s should be sufficient, the brand RE is all over the place and is pretty cheap.

If your looking into extra furniture for your dorm check out [Affordable & Modern Eco Friendly Furniture - 100% Recyclable | SmartDeco](http://www.smartdecofurniture.com) It’s cheap, recyclable, easy to transport furniture and perfect for a dorm.

I guess I am sort of overly practical. I was thinking of sending towels from home that it wouldn’t matter if they got lost. I guess fresh ones would be more fun.

Residence Hall Linens is really NOT from any one college. They buy names of freshman from the colleges and put out letters made to look like they are from the college.

I had a set of RE (Room Essentials, I think I bought them from Target) sheets and a comforter for two years…they are VERY comfortable/soft and wear well. Only getting a new set this summer because the sheets have started to “pill” pretty badly and I’m ready for a new design anyway since I’m starting grad school somewhere new in the fall.

We got son’s linens at Linens N Things. Are they gone now? Anyway he picked black sheets and a coral colored comforter that practically glows. It was fun shopping for the few things he needed. The linens are still in great shape five years later and work on his home bunk bed that he doesn’t use anymore much. But guests do, in a pinch.

One thing I’ve learned from buying sheets online (two kids through BS, and 3 into college), is that thread count doesn’t guarantee softness. I thought it did, and was really disappointed one year buying from Overstock. Beautiful sheets, high thread count, felt like sandpaper, and crappy workmanship.
I’ve stuck to Macy’s since then. Returns are easy, and name brands I recognize. Just try to wait for sales.

We bought most of our sheets and towels at BB & B and some at Target and for older d, Linens & Things. My daughters went with three sets which was probably excessive but I think you need at least two -there are times you are sick and changing sheets is important. Maybe you have a busy schedule that week and can’t get to do laundry. We still have all these sheets and they are always good for back-up. Younger d will take a set and a comforter with her to summer Shakespeare program she is performing in along with fan purchased for older d the summer before her senior year in high school in AP Studio Art program. We still use the wastebasket and plastic drawers we picked up at Target that summer for that program. …Older d at her 5 year college reunion this weekend so once you have something you still use it. Many towels were thrown away along the way after studio abroad, summer program and summer internship in France, the Berkshires and more-the comings and goings and packing and unpacking are endless

I think it is a good idea to get kids set up with the basics when they head off for the first time. Of course it does depend on the supplies that they are after. Some things that kids want and say that they need were not on my list of things that were needed at all. Just because you are going away to school does not mean that you need to have a new backpack, when the nice one from last year worked out well and still looks good.

I do think the parents should get the linens and all the stuff that the kids will need for the bathroom and for the bed. Don’t know if i would consider a rug to be a must have, but people feel different about that. We went with the easiest route when it came to the linens. Ordered from RHL and had it shipped there. I have not heard of any issues with the stuff or any complaints from the kids. It was cost effective and helped us all to avoid shopping for more stuff and then packing more stuff.
