I live in a dorm right now and I want to lower my bed, but the metal frame won’t come out. Does anyone have tips for how to get it out. I tried turning it over and everything
If it’s welded, you’re stuck. If it has screws or nuts & bolts, you might be able to do something. It’s impossible to answer your question with no idea what the bed looks like. There are probably a thousand or so different bed models out there, even in the college world. I might actually be off by an order of magnitude. :)>-
Right. I don’t get the bed thing. Even when schools go out of their way to build posh dorms (to attract students who often could care less about academics) they retain the children’s size bed but tack on a few inches for length. Why not double/Full? Bizarre!
Most of the rooms I’ve seen are too small for double/full – and the schools may worry that it would only encourage behavior that they are not trying to (shall we say) facilitate. In my day, we bribed the custodial staff to move out the frames and plopped double mattresses on the floor.
You’re supposed to just be able to lift the metal frame out but I’m going to get some WD-40 and a mallet this weekend to try and ease it out.
Call maintenance and see if they will help.
Ask your RA or maintenance for suggestions/help. It’s hard for us to say without knowing what bed you have, and if you’re having trouble, it’s likely that others have as well. At my school the beds would often be really difficult to change height so the school provided the RA’s with tools to help. It wasn’t something that was advertised or anything. They would just lend them out to anyone who asked. See if your school has something similar or solutions that have worked for students in the past
