Dorm for Tisch Dance Student

I was wondering what the best location was for a Tisch Dance student. I know places like Founders are supposed to be nicer than places like Rubin, but Rubin apparently has a dance studio and a small theatre. Are these amentities worthwhile?
Also, I have a fairly hefty scholarship that includes housing, and this has raised another question. If I decide to go to a cheaper dorm, which my scholarship from NYU more than covers, would I get reimbursed the rest of the money? Or would I just be going to a cheaper dorm?

ull just be going to a cheaper dorm

Thanks.

Does anyone have an opinion about whether Founders or Rubin will be better?

If it’s not your money and are sure it is totally covered, I would go for the nicest (thus, more expensive) dorm.

If not, it’s really a waste of money to try to “live it up” as a student. You’re there to study, not live like Jay Z. Nice things for you will come later in life. :)

I don’t know how it works with financial aid if they grant you $11,000 for housing and you only use $9,000. Checking with the FA office will be your best bet. If you do get to keep the extra, getting cheaper housing will be a good way to have some extra money for food, clothing, books, travel home, etc…those expenses where you might go over the budget that NYU allots for you.

As for Founders/Rubin - I don’t know if you will be using those amenities, but they are very different. Rubin, older, beautiful lobby, closer to campus. Founders - newer, farther from campus. My daughter is likely to be choosing Rubin.

FYI, I am a parent of NYU2016 student.
