Dorm room for rent???

Hi guys,

I’m done with college myself, but I’ll be spending next week in MD and was wondering if anyone here knows of anyone who could rent me his/her dorm room for that short time (or would that be done thru the school administration itself???) It’s a very common practice in Canada to be able to crash at a university dorm room in the summer time for roughly $15-$20 a night. I’m not the hotel/motel type. I just need a bed and a shower in the morning. Plus I find hotel/motel rates in the US (especially this time of year!) totally off the charts (at least compared to where I’m from…)

Help anyone???

Thanks in advance!

Most unverisities do not allow this as it is considered a safety hazard to students…though I am not implying you are a psycho. If you belong to a fraternity/sorority, then you can stay in frat/sorority houses. If not, I’m afraid you are probably out of luck. Many people rent rooms out of their homes ESPECIALLY DURING THE SUMMER, so check the local paper. You can also check for house sitting jobs for that week and get paid to stay at someone’s house.

Agreed. Definitely not a common practice here, b/c I guess in America there are more rapists and serial killers. Or something. There are youth hostels that traveling folks can crash at. Sounds like that may be up your alley if you are looking for something dorm-like for $15 - 20 dollars a night.

You might want to poke around this site: http://www.hiusa.org/</a>. It’s cool b/c you can click on states and see a list of hostels affiliated with HI. Also check out a library or maybe even a travel agency for some books/brochures.

Good luck and have a blast in Maryland.

flgirl 04, thanks for the heads up on that. I do understand the safety hazard aspect to this, although it is quite foreign to me up in Canada. I however don’t belong to a fraternity, so no go for a frat house. I will indeed check the local paper for house room rentals and/or house-sitting job ops.

MissSuperFantastic, it’s sad but true, what you’re saying about the US harboring more rapists and serial killers (than Canada). I’ll look into the youth hostels you’re talking about, as well as your suggested website.

Thanks so much, you two. I will indeed “have a blast in Maryland”. :)

p.s. Please, keep 'em (suggestions) coming!!!

um people only let ppl house sit for them when they know the person. so dont waste your time with that. no offense. id double check with universities and see if they’d let you stay in a dorm room, if not go youth hostel or use:
