Dorm room futon-Anyone ever order through school and Bedloft.com?

Looking for opinions on the futon you can order through bed loft.com as to whether is comfortable or horrible? The advantage in ordering through them is the futon is delivered to dorm room before move in, thus we don’t have to haul it up there ourselves…

Ok well if no one has ordered off of Bedloft, any futon recommendations for other websites? Looking for one for my daughters dorm to fit under a lofted bed.

My D got an inexpensive futon for her apartment from IKEA. It seems fine.

We have a funny college futon story. Long story short, we spent quite a bit to purchase one with no assembly required (only needed to screw in the feet) to avoid a futon assembly meltdown on college move-in day. A family can only handle so much! We purchased it at a futon store after moving in and somehow got it in the back of an SUV! Good Luck!!!

Costco periodically has futons on sale at their stores. They are made of hardwood and decent quality. I believe they were around $500. Our kids just used the standard issue bed and didn’t purchase beds until they moved into apartments. Each bought an IKEA double bed with cheap (junk) foam mattress that they threw out after a few years.

My daughter’s freshman one room quad had barley enough room for her basic stuff and her 105 pound body, let alone a futon!

Yes that is my concern, the futon taking up too much room, the Bedloft place is where we have to order the lofted bed from, they do it before move in, and have option of purchasing a futon, that also will be delivered to room before move in and is already assembled for you, quite the convenience factor, unless of course is so umcomfortable, takes up space and no one sits/sleeps on it…

Are there reviews? So much depends on the mattress of the futon. If it’s pretty firm, it nay just the term or year. If it’s super soft, you will feel the framing like the awful futons at Walmart where the foam is so soft you can’t feel it at all.

One of my Ds was required to use a similar company by her U, in order to have a lofted bed, and we also rented a futon for the semester. The futon mattress was ok quality, not great, but was used regularly for watching tv, doing homework, guests, etc., and worked out fine.

I have, however, changed my mind about lofted beds, after reading a thread here on CC, posted by a parent whose child was seriously injured after falling out a lofted bed, which is apparently not uncommon.

Yes, I think beds on the ground floor are much safer. I wouldn’t want to sleep on a lofted or bunk bed myself and there are a ton of things going on during college. I think lofts or a bunk bed just adds more potential danger.

Thanks for the links to the articles, it did make me go back and make sure the loft at her school did have safety rails on them, would have thought no company would sell a loft without an integrated safety rail, but I guess there are schools that do not.

We also bought a futon at Ikea - it might have been the Ikea BALKARP Sleeper sofa - in a nice looking medium blue that was a wonderful buy. Paid no more than $89 for it - maybe less and it has worked out great. Not lumpy, a good compact size - they use it all the time and will have it in their apt next year.
