when room selections are made by exisiting students do you actaully choose a specific room, or floor, etc? do you get to look at a floor plan to decide/chhose? or once you fill out the preferences on the housing form does the administration just assign rooms within the dorm at will?

I think the returning student housing form did let you request a specific room but they may not always honor your request.

If you’re a returning student, you can make a request for a specific room, although not floor. You also select preferences over visitation types and room styles, as well as listing the specific dorms you would like to get into, with space to request a specific room in each of those four dorms. You can look at floor plans on the housing website where you reapply. I don’t know exactly how the housing administration makes the rooming assignments, but I do know that returning students get priority over the freshman, so you will have a greater chance at getting what you want, although maybe not specifically the room number or exact floor you want.
