What exactly is the norm of dorming as a junior? Or upperclassman? Is it uncommon? I don’t want to be that weird old person who’s living with a bunch of freshmans. Albeit I want that college experience but I probably missed that opportunity.
I go to the university of Utah… So nothing prestigious or spectacular. It’s just a state school. Any thoughts?
Do many juniors dorm at your school?
@pitt2021 idk. That’s the problem
It depends:
My dd1 had to dorm as a junior because that’s what her school was able to provide. Housing was on-campus because there was no other option. She was at a large university with 40K+ students. They had “upperclassmen” dorm buildings whereby everyone in her building was a junior; in her senior year, she went to senior dorm housing.
DD2 had to move off-campus because housing was only provided for freshman. She’s on a large campus of 40K plus students. She has lived with housemates since sophomore year off-campus. Now, her housemates are juniors and seniors.
DS1 lives on campus. His building is a combination of levels but with single and double rooms. Freshman are in separate areas. Roommates are assigned according to requests and level.
As a junior, it shouldn’t matter. But, if you are a junior who is 27, then it matters.
I’m sorry I thought I typed more! I’m assuming you’re transferring. Have you tried the Utah forum on here or Reddit? See if your school has a learning community for upperclassmen as a way to meet people.
I dormed all 4 years at CWRU…I was quite happy to have someone make my meals.
But now Freshman are in their own dorms…so living with sophomores and up wouldn’t be bad.
It varies by school. At my school 85-90 percent of students stay on campus at a given time, but it might be different at other schools… I am still planning on doming on campus next year. My school separates freshman dorms with upperclassmen dorms, so you probs wont be living with all freshmen
