ok so im an incoming freshman and i went on the residence tour during cornell days

here are my questions:
- are the town houses completely antisocial??? will it be harder to meet pple here?
- single or double???..i no everyone says that a double is better so you can meet more pple but it seems like there are so many single rooms available
- in the housing application it asks if you want a quad…which dorm has quads and triples?
- does you choice of smoking/music level/bed time/ cleanliness affect which dorm you’re in or just who your roomate is?
- which dorms have suites? and are they all in the same arrangement/style as the ones in court/mews??

thank you sooo sooo much…
i have no clue what to put down

Okay, to answer your questions:
- Townhouses: Honestly, I have not met anyone in a townhouse. I know someone who lived in them a few years ago. Basically, if you’re housemates are cool it’s a good experience, if you don’t get along, it’s a little more difficult cause you’re in a house…as far as socialness…you are not limited to meeting people just within the townhouses…I really can’t help you there. I think this year you have to specifically request them.
- It depends on your preference. Double you run the risk of a crazy roommate (I got lucky, my roomie is great, but that is DEFINATELY not the case for everyone). Where I live each suite has two doubles and a single ( I live in Mews) so those are pretty social. I’ve heard in Dickson, where a lot of people have singles, it isn’t an issues because most people are in singles, so doors are open to meet people.
- Donlon has quads and Townhouses are considered quads. Triples are mostly in Dickson I think, but beware of “forced” triples (doubles turned triples)…that may not be an issues your year, but they overenrolled my year and did a lot of that.
- It definately affects your roommate, and MAYBE the people that live near you, but not necessarily the specific dorm.
- Low-Rises and High-Rises also have suites, but they are different than the Court/Mews ones. They are more “closed”, there is a door leading into the suite, not open like court/mews.
Hoped this helped some, basically housing is pretty random, so good luck!
