Dorming Vs Commuting?! Please help!?

I’m going to be an incoming freshmen, and I live 20 minutes away from my University. I was thinking about Dorming, but then again in the first semester there is a 12:00AM curfew which I never ever had a curfew in my high school years. My Parents gave me MAX freedom, I proven them my trust as a kid up, so I’m already very independent. My only problem(s) with dorming is that I am a musical person, and like to play VERY loud Guitar,Piano/Keyboard,Singing, any instrument I can my hands on, I also listen to very loud music. I practice alot, and study on my own wither it be reading books or foreign language vis Rossta stone. So I’m always occupied, and never board I do this in the morning, and at night (of course in a sound proof basement). Since I live so close I dont see a point bring expensive instruments to the dorm, and with the limited room space I won’t be able to bring most of instruments, only the acoustic guitar maybe even my Ukulele or Mandolin… I’m also VERY OCD with cleaning, and its kinda contradicting, but when I study, I like quiet with a hint of soft of orchestra music. My house is empty, since my sister is studying out of state, and my parents are always at work, and I love having space. Sure it saves money if I stay at home, but thats not the problem. I’m a heavy sleeper, and I like waking up late. I’m just considered about morning classes, and having to drive there, or making friends and connections with the people on campus I dont know anyone there. What would you recommend me, at my status? I was thinking about staying on campus 5 days a week Monday - Friday, and visit home once in awhile during that time. then go home during the weekends, and every-other week I alternate from staying home that week, and staying on campus. or maybe commuting first semester, and second doming with no curfew? I have no clue… I’m kinda weird I can handle being the introvert type If I want too with no problem, but can easily be the extrovert type I love being people who I find interesting. Then again I want to put my needs first over friends (e.g. My preferred Workplace environmental, how I study, my interests) please Help?

It depends on your school. Do lots of people commute? if lots do, it won’t be too hard making friends.

However, given all your pet peeves and habits you won’t enjoy living in dorms and people won’t enjoy having you there.

I find it strange that your dorm has a curfew though, lol…
And many dorms have music practice rooms.

By the way, it was very hard to read the post. Please use paragraphs.

You live 20 minutes away?! thats ridiculous, why would you dorm if you are 20 minutes away, sounds like a bunch of unnecessary money spent. You can still be involved without commuting, I commuted to my community college and made my best friends there and was very involved in student life. Plus if you can have your own space go for it.

yea I’d stay at home if I were you. it’d be such a waste of money to live on campus when you’re only a 20min drive away. and not gonna lie, you’d get on most people’s nerves real fast with all those pet peeves…my dorm is so messy. couldn’t imagine what would happen if my roommate kept his side clean all the time and expected me to do the same
and there’s one kid in my dorm hall who plays his guitar sometimes at night and literally everybody hates it. dont be that kid haha it’s super annoying. and dont waste the extra money to just live in a dorm. Most people I know (myself included) have made plenty of friends in-class

I personally hated living in the dorms. Too much noise - I was chronically sleep-deprived and grumpy. Commuting sounds lovely!

One thing: if you do live in the dorms, don’t practice your instruments in your room. Your college probably has sound-proof music practice rooms. Use them.

There’s little point in staying in a dorm in an attempt to connect with people if you’re already planning on not spending much time in the room. Occasional weekends? Sure. But every weekend and every other week? Pointless.

I have lived in a dorm and commuted. I love the freedom of commuting and having my own space. I meet people just fine. There are other ways to get involved on campus other than living there (or spending the occasional week there, if you do what you’re planning).
Not to mention that you are so close. You can stay later on campus or get an on campus job to meet people and have some of that “traditional experience” and be home not even a half hour later. Save the money.

it depends. I lived on campus my four years. I loved it. you would still be able to have a pretty good esperience communting. it is about what you make out of it

Thanks for all the kind replys! In addition to what I said, I’ll be transferring to Wisconsin Madison University were I will Dorm since it is a vast distance.
