I need some advice on choosing a dorm that would best suit me.
First of all, I am going to study economics/business, so I want to know which dorm would be closest the classes. I don’t mind taking short walks. Also, I would like a dorm that is clean and very quiet. I prefer dorms that do not have very many parties since I am a non-drinker. And it would be best if the cafeteria with the best food is also near the dorm.

Now, I have another question.
Because the first day of moving in to the dormitory is September 12th, I was wondering if I can move in before that day. My sister is in high school and her school starts on September 1st, which is before Northwestern starts. And it would be hard for my mom to travel to Chicago in September; she can only travel there in August. So, is it possible to move in to the dorm 2 weeks before the moving day, during August?

To your second question: No you cannot move into the dorms earlier than September 12th. If you cannot go with family then what you can do is ship most of your possessions before you arrive and then take public transportation to the school by yourself with just one or two suitcases. It’s not ideal, but it’s the way it is. Perhaps your sister can stay with a friend for a day or two.

hmmm, economics/business… I feel like that’s more south campus oriented…? So, possibly Allison or 1835 Hinman. I haven’t been in the rooms at 1835 however so I can’t tell you how nice it is, but they have one of the best dining halls, and the largest. Allison’s rooms are pretty decent, and fairly decent bathrooms. Not a partier so no Bobb-Mculloch, and as much as I hate to say it because it’s so awesome, maybe not Elder. But maybe so. Plenty of people party here, it is the freshman quad, but it’s just that, all freshman. It’s great living with your class and getting close to people that will be in your classes for the next four years.
