Can a current or former Mudder describe them?

It really depends on the dorm. In general though, they are bigger and nicer than your average college dorm, although compared to the other 5C’s, they are not as nice as a whole. However, the best part about the dorms is the dorm community and closeness, particularly in the inner dorms. A brief description of the current “personalities” of the inner dorms goes as:

East: Supposedly the nerdy dorm, big on gaming, but very nice cool people there.

West: Wild dorm, loves to blow things up and set stuff on fire.

North: Jocks dorm, lots of drinking, they play Beer Pong 24/7.

South: Traditionally the quieter dorm, but getting louder, and the biggest for unicycling.

Keep in mind that these are general descriptions of the personalities, and there are certainly people in each of the inner dorms that don’t fit this bill.

The four outer dorms, Atwood, Case, Linde, and Sontag, don’t have as much of a recognized whole personality. Personality really depends on the people in each suite (or L-hall, in Case, where I live). Some suites and L’s are huge on drinking and partying, some are gamers, some are just quiet and there. But, people are still really cool and nice, and there is still a spirit of community, though not as big and strong usually as that of the inner dorms.

tiyusufaly - Thank you for your helpful comments! I guess it all goes back to: visit, visit, visit! See the place with your own eyes! BTW, are there any dorms that are single gender (all women)? ( I could probably track this down on the HMC website but, I’m lazy!)

You are absolutely right, oceanrose, you must visit it entirely for yourself. Whatever you do, DON’T DECIDE ON A COLLEGE WITHOUT VISITING IT.

As to your second question, no there are no dorms that are all female. However, there are suites and L’s that are all female. And if you want to hang out in single gender dorms a lot, make friends at Scripps ;).

I’m wondering if you know Mudder who’s also in Case. Tall, thin… quiet type… AE :)

If you leave a nick, I’ll have him IM you over break. He left this morning but it will take him all day to fly home ;)

Hope you have a wonderful, relaxing break!

The stereotypes are somewhat true, but please don’t make your judgments already. Come to Mudd and see what you really think.

Mudder’s_Mudder, unless I am mistaken, the AE gives it all away. He has the initials GP? If so, I don’t know him very well, although he has tutored a whole group of frosh for the Linear Algebra final. Anyways, my AIM is Tito da Bambino1. I too hope you have a wonderful relaxing break for you and your son, and wish him the best of luck as he starts (I think) his last semester at Mudd.

Think different major, younger…

I’ll have him IM you when he wakes up. IF he wakes up (finals, packing, long flight, late night – you know how that last one goes ).
