are there a lot of single rooms on campus?
do the dorms have a.c.?

My D is a freshman at Lafayette (and loving it). On accepted students day we toured a number of different dorms. I don’t remember seeing any freshman dorms with single rooms but you can always call ResLife to double check. A number of the buildings have a/c though. I remember that South, Kamine, McKeen have a/c and house a lot of freshman but you can look at the attached list from the website. My D chose a dorm without a/c and it really hasn’t be a problem.

Freshmen don’t get singles, typically. I don’t know of any freshmen who are living in a single. There are very very few sophomores who get singles.
It’s mostly Juniors and seniors who live in singles. The majority of suites on campus go to juniors and seniors. Typically, suites have 2 singles and a double. Sometimes, sophomores and juniors live in suites, and that’s also one way to live in a single.

Not all dorms have ACs. All new dorms do have ACs though. This page shows which dorms have what kind of features: http://reslife.lafayette.edu/files/2012/04/Residence-Hall-Features-at-a-Glance.pdf

however, if you have a medical condition that requires you to have a room with an AC, then the school will put a window AC unit in your room.
