Dorms

For freshmen housing, how does choosing a roommate work? If you don’t know anyone that you could room with, do you just let NYU choose your roommate for you? Also, besides choosing Hayden, Founders, etc… do you also choose which level or any other specifics?

If you don’t put anyone on your housing app for roommates, NYU will choose for you. You won’t be able to choose any specifics except for whether you would like low-cost or not. But other than that, you can only choose your dorm preferences.

kingsfan,

shjk is right about the choice of dorms only, along with the type of room (triple, double, single) or cost of the room. You can opt to apply separately and directly to the Residential College in Goddard (a smaller, close knit community). I think you have to write something briefly for Goddard, unless that has changed.

Last year, there was a Facebook page set up for and by the class of 2014. There was a helpful section there whereby students had the option to find a roommate through a more extensive survey of questions to match roommates together. That was how my son found his roommate. They both chose Founders as first choice and got that dorm on a higher floor. They had no choice about the floor or precise room.

I wonder if a similar FB page has been or will be set up for the class of 2015?

OK, did some digging and found the following two links about finding your own NYU roommate:

1) From “Find a NYU Roommate 2014 Edition”:

[Find An NYU Roommate! 2014 Edition | Facebook](<a href=“Facebook Offentlig gruppe | Facebook”>Facebook Offentlig gruppe | Facebook)

2) NY Times article about the topic; this article mentions that NYU does have a survey and compatibility questionnaire to match roommates, though it may not be as extensive as the one referred to in the first link above.

This is to give the class of 2015 some ideas, if someone has not come up with this yet.
