Dortmunder is dead

Well, he was never actually alive, but the creator of one of my favorite literary characters ever just passed away. [Prolific mystery writer Donald Westlake dead at 75 - Yahoo! News](http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090101/ap_en_ot/obit_westlake)

At least Westlake’s last novel to be published (next year) will be a Dortmunder. Thanks for the fun ride.

And the problem is that Terry Pratchett, the creator of my OTHER favorite character – Sam Vimes – is suffering from Alzheimers, and it’s hard to say what his future holds – he apparently is no longer able to sign dedications at book signings, which is not a good sign.

I am working my way through the entire Discworld series, in order. Reading Night Watch right now. A friend bought the entire collection, didn’t get into the first book, and gave me the whole bunch - brand new!

I remember how I felt when I heard that Douglas Adams had died. He didn’t write enough books, by a long shot!

lderochi and mom2three, hope you two saw the lovely news that SIR Terry Pratchett was knighted the other day. How wonderful that he was honored while he can still appreciate it to some degree.

I saw that. I wonder if Sir Terry was as reluctant as Vimes was to accept a knighthood!
