Double Amputee... Any Chances?

Hello, I am a prospective UPenn student and am interested in what my chances are for premed.

SAT: 1950
SATII: Did not take due to injury.
GPA: 99/100 Weighted.
Course load: all APs
ECs: Bio Club, Internship, FBLA State Champion, Pit Orchestra, Profound Cello Player.
Awards: FBLA State Championship.

Situation: Was involved in a tragic car accident during May '09. I was sitting in the front seat and sadly, that part of our car struck a lamp post after hydroplaning. This resulted in the loss of my legs. I have not been able to make a successful recovery, both mental and physical.

*Will my unique situation give me an edge in admissions come Thursday?

Thanks in advance,
ScouringPad

Be strong in character, and i think it will. Good luck!

What school did you apply to?

The OP said s/he is interested in premed, so s/he must have applied to CAS.

@OP: I think & hope it will. :)

ScouringPad – I definitely think it will help. Awesome that you will be going for pre-med. I know you’ll do great.

wow – I really want to get in, but reading your post, I hope you get in over me!

Good Luck!!

I’m so sorry to hear about that, but I know that if it’s meant to be, there is no doubt you will receive an acceptance letter on Thursday!

hmm so me having no SATIIs wont hurt so much?

and yes i applied CAS.

OP: I’m sorry for your tragedy. You inspire me to be more appreciative of what I do have. I hope you get in.

scouringpad, i’m not gonna pity you (and you other guys shouldnt either) because i know if i was in your position thats the last thing i would want, pity. but your drive to keep pursuing success despite your tragedy is very inspiring. even if you dont get into penn, i hope you’re successful in life

ScouringPad, I think you do need to take SAT2’s – you may need to get some help from your guidance counselor, LOL I know. With your situation there may be options that schools would be willing to offer you that are outside the norm.

It is definitely worth talking to people at your school and the schools you want to go to.

With a name like scouringpad and never having posted until yesterday, there is a distinct possibility that the op is a ■■■■■. No SAT2’s and a very low SAT1 despite taking “all APs”. If I were an admission counselor, I’d want to see an alumni or on-site interview.

If calling out an obvious ■■■■■ (probably an April Fool’s joke) deserves post deletion, the moderators here are either incompetent, inexperienced, or ■■■■■■ themselves. It makes me wonder if this is their first time around the Internet.

“I lost both my legs and have yet to recover physically or mentally… will this help me get into my dreeeam school?”

Damn dude.

Woohoo I got in! Been celebrating with the family. Just got back from a camping trip.

Don’t be quick to dismiss him as a ■■■■■ because of his scores. I’ve only taken 6 APs and got a 1960 on my SATs and was accepted.

If this is true ScouringPad, congratulations.

Edit: granted…students are allowed max 6APs at my school…

Yea, standardized testing is not my forte. As i posted before, my GPA is very good and i am certainly top 5% at my school.

I also had an alumni interview which went well. Mainly talked about internship.

ScouringPad, I’d like to congratulate you on the most successful ■■■■■ job in the history of CC. We all aspire to live up to your accomplishment that is this thread.
Chad Warden would be proud.
