Double depositing

Hi, I’m an international student looking to study Aerospace Engineering BSc in the US, starting in spring 2016… so far I’ve been accepted to Embry-Riddle, and still waiting for replies from Purdue and Texas A&M.
The issue here is, that the deadline to submit the tuition deposit for Embry-Riddle is 1st November, but my first choice is TAMU. However, TAMU website claims that their decisions are released by mid November.
So in theory, if I pay the deposit for ERAU and then I get into TAMU and then pay the TAMU deposit and attend A&M, is there any issue with this? Since I heard that double depositing can cause colleges to take back admission offers if they find out.

You would not “double”. You would deposit at the second and let the first know you are not enrolling. You lose that deposit.

@HRSMom alright thanks for clearing it up

Yes, in this scenario it is very important that you let ERAU know you will not attend (preferably in writing so you have a record) as soon as you deposit to TAMU. And you will lose the first deposit but if you believe it is for a better outcome, then it is worth doing.

The deal with “double depositing” has more to do with May 1st. No one is supposed to have two deposits outstanding after May 1st.

I’m sure a double deposit for spring semester is bad too, but as others have said OP’s scenario is not a “double deposit.” The OP’s scenario is what happens with waitlists, and is a perfectly acceptable practice.
