I’m a 21 year old junior college student and I plan on studying computer science when I get to university next spring. Although I have an interest in software engineering I also have an interest in mechanical engineering as well. Since I’m deciding which one to pursue I’m thinking about double majoring in both subjects. Is this a good idea or will it be best to purse only one degree?
It appears that you’ve been at a CC for awhile and have been borrowing student loans. I would think that your best bet would be to choose the path that gets you a degree and working ASAP.
You’re not going to be paid more for having a double degree. If you can include some classes from the “other” major (for interest) without adding add’l semesters, then fine.
What is your GPA now? At one pt, it appeared to be about a 3.0. If that is still the case, truly concentrate on one major, the one that will boost your GPA to increase your marketability.
It’s usually best to focus on one demanding major. Check with your school, they likely have their own rules around dual, double and 2nd majors (each of those can be three separate policies, or one, it varies by college).
It may be more effective to earn a minor (which would use your electives and not add much to any time to graduation). Your school may offer a minor in Mechanical (I’m sure they do in CS).
