I was accepted into NYU Stern, and I want to double major in finance and computer science. How good is the computer science program at NYU? Carnegie Melon has a very good computer science program, and a very good business program, so is it better to go to CMU? Which would be the better choice?

uhh… i thought you were not allowed to have a degree @ Comp Sci dept if you are a sternie.

If you are in Stern, you cannot have a second major outside of Stern. You could major in Finance and minor in Computer Science.

I’ve asked the stern people this many times, and they say they encourage double majoring, but only in Stern and college of arts and sciences

I stand corrected. I double checked and it IS possible. Mea culpa.

heck, I am majoring Finance and Philosophy@CAS…

it is possible,

and nevermind…

they don’t allow you to have a Minor, but major in possible I think

Starting the the class of 2009, Stern people can double major outside of Stern, theres some red tape to get through, but i personally know people who are doing finance and CS, so it cant be too hard. Id definately pick stern over CM, NYU is basically the best for finance, and have a pretty good CS department (plus we have information technology major you could take with finance, and minor in CS)

On NYU’s website, they said that you’re allowed to have a major in stern along with a major and/or a minor at CAS. So yeah, it’s definitely possible. On the other hand, CS is the strongest major at CMU, and its business school is pretty prestigious too. I’ve heard that CS at NYU is not very strong

If you’re looking primarily to get into computer science after graduation, go to CMU. If you want to go into finance after graduation, go to NYU. Easy…

what if you want to go in a computer field?
